UK ATHLETICS INSURANCE
On the 30th
October 2009 UK Athletics insurance broker Marsh issued an insurance cover note
for the 12 months commencing 1st November 2009. This cover note was
published on the UKA website and widely distributed by email.
The cover note clearly stated that the policy excess or deductible was £250 for
each and every claim increasing to £750 for claims made by non athletic
affiliated members. i.e. The excess applied to both personal injury and property
damage claims.
ABAC accepted
that a cover note issued by a major insurance broker and carefully checked by UK
Athletics before publication would provide an accurate description of the cover
provided
However, following publication of the recent article on the ABAC website drawing
attention to the level of the excess, the cover note issued by Marsh on the 30th
October was promptly replaced by another cover note dated 3rd
November 2009. The 3rd November cover note states that the deductible
or excess only applies to property damage claims.
ABAC is pleased that the fact that they have drawn attention to this matter has
led to the correction of a serious error in the published insurance
documentation.
ABAC Comment. At face value this seems to be yet
another example of sloppy management and inaccurate representation. That said,
the ARC insurance policy for clubs remains in all key respects superior to the
UKA one.
